R-CAT Faculty Development Program

Rajasthan Centre of Advanced Technology (R-CAT) was launched by the Hon’ble Chief Minister in August 2022 to strengthening higher and technical education ecosystem at Rajasthan. This is a niche enterprise that is working to skill, upskill, and reskill the youth, trainers, professionals, and start-ups in the state in order to create the NextGen Tech Enabled Industry Ecosystem.

R-CAT is adopting the outward-in approach and brought Tech Giants like Apple, Microsoft, EC Council, Phytec Embedded, Oracle, Cisco, VMWare, SAS, RedHat, Adobe and Autofina Robotics on one platform for the aforesaid objective.

The main idea behind Faculty Development Programs (FDPs)/ Training of Trainers (ToT) across the world is “upskill” and “reskill”. To integrate the latest developments and trends in the current curricula, R-CAT identified the need for FDPs in academic institutions on periodic intervals. FDPs should be designed to help faculties to develop new skills, knowledge and teaching methodologies that can enhance their performance as educators and researchers.

During R-CAT Open House, organized on 11th April 2023, experts concluded that FDPs can help faculty members stay up–to–date with the latest trends and advances in the field, which directly imparts the quality of education that they offer to their students.

R-CAT has derived that FDPs are essential for continuous growth and improvement of faculty members in colleges. They play an important role in enhancing the quality of education and research in colleges and are therefore a worthwhile investment.

By considering the above facts, being an enabler R-CAT intends to launch a series of FDPs directly offers by Industry Giants to state’s Faculties and Trainers.

The main objective of the FDP is to form a bridge between the industry and academic institutions to appraise their knowledge and to impart the basic concepts and techniques to the potential technical faculties and trainers of all the colleges in Rajasthan. It is useful to enhance their skills for academic growth and also to make them conducive for research activity in the field of Cybersecurity, Cloud, Mobile, IoT, AI/ML, AR/VR and Data Science etc.

Conducting FDPs on periodic intervals may help in:

  1. Improving Teaching Skills: FDPs can help faculty members improve their teaching skills, strategies and delivery methodologies. This can lead to more effective and engaging classroom instruction, which ultimately benefits students.

  2. Keeping up with New Technologies: FDPs can help instructors stay up – to – date with new technologies and instructional methods. This can be especially important in today’s fast-paced technological environment, where new tools and approaches to education are constantly emerging.

  3. Enhancing Research Capabilities: FDPs can also help instructors enhance their research capabilities, whether by developing new research skills or by connecting with colleagues who can provide valuable insights and feedback on their work.

  4. Building professional network: FDPs provides opportunities for faculty members to build professional networks and collaborations. This can lead to new research opportunities, collaboration on grants and other form of professional growth.

  5. Improving retention and recruitment: By offering FDPs, institution can show a commitment to supporting their faculty members professional growth and development. This can improve faculty retention rates and make the institution more attractive to prospective hires.

The following steps will be followed:

  1. R-CAT will identify the partner institution and industry partner for conducting FDP. FDPs may be organized either physical or online. In case of physical the venue may be either R-CAT premise/ Spoke/ Partner Institution.

  2. R-CAT will send a tentative calendar to RTU, Department of Technical Education and Department of Higher Education. These bodies will circulate the calendar among all the institution comes under their purview.

  3. R-CAT will post the tentative calendar on its portal and start inviting nominations for FDP.

  4. Concern Industry Partner and Institutions will also help in getting nominations.

  5. The FDP will be conducted as per the schedule and a feedback will be taken post FDP for further improvisation.

  6. A participation certification will be issued to each faculty after successful conduction of FDPs.
